What apps. comprise your 3D work chain?

(rwv01) #1

Just wondering,

What programs other than Blender do you use to support your 3D art?

I.e. 2D paint programs, external renderers, 3d editors, compositing apps.
etc.

but i’m experimenting with external renderers like VirtuaLight, BMRT, aqsis etc.

(A2597) #11

letsee…
rendering,modeling,animating: Blender
some texturing, minor other stuff: Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro
Landscapes: Terragen
UVMapping: LithUnwrap
Converting: 3D Exploration

(slikdigit) #12

In the past:
windows NT-2000
Animation Master 6.0 - 9.0
Photoshop 4 to 5
AfterEffects (4/student edition)
Premier 5
Now:
Linux (Redhat 7.2, Gentoo 1.4RC1)
Blender3D
Learning Houdini Apprentice off and on
Gimp
Compositing I don’t know yet(FilmGimp? Jashaka?)
Editing I don’t know yet (Heroine virtual stuff maybe?)
and there’s always the blender sequence editor.
Planning to check out external renderers (Lightflow, Yafray, Aqsis)
Planning to check out Wings3D if it can ever do ‘real’ subdivision surfaces and if I can get it to compile and run.
Planning to check out Loq Airou if Eskil ever ports it to Linux.

(rogerm3d) #13

Lets see what do I use:
Photoshop, Gimp, Illustrator
Terragen, PlantStudio2, Maya learning edition (man i hate that watermark)
Learning YafRay, VirtuaLight, LightFlow
Pen, Pencil, Marker, NuPastal, Charcol, paint water color … to sketch up ideas to make in 3D.
And of course the ultimate tool of all…
Blender, Blender, Blender…Blender… :stuck_out_tongue:
Is their anything I missed?
:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
[edit] add Wings3D to the list

(sten) #14

hmm, I never knew LW existed for IRIX or any other Unix-like system
except Mac OSX…is that so ??

(PowerMacG4) #15

Lightwave 5.6 ran on both Sun and SGI.
heres an old link and check out the hardware requirement:
http://interneteye3d.com/Reviews2000/Prev/lightwave56/default.asp
From what I read both Sun and SGI came together
From what I read 5.6 is still pretty popular.
Actual Lightwave on IRIX is not to Bad I wish they kept making it on that platform.
Its coming down to Softimage XSI and Maya still on IRIX platform.
