What are others using for final production?

Just wondering… what other tools have been used for final editing and production (including sound) of blender animations? I would like to put together a suite of tools to make movies for both DVD and streaming media. Recommendations would be welcome!

yo, pick up adobe premiere and/or pinnacle studio 8. i use them both, mainly because i need to learn premiere, but also, studio 8 makes DVDs/VCDs, so yea, but make sure u output ur videos at 30 frames per second, unless ur PAL, then 25

You can register online with Quicktime for $30. With the registered version you can export to most file types wuth different compressions, as well as rescale and combine sound and video files, even change frame rates. It can do very simple edits, but you can do most of your editing in blender before you do your export, now that blender 2.28 has sound strips in its sequence editor.

I used cinelerria (for linux) I raved on about it on my webpage at the bottom- read about it there.

Actually, I’m using WinXP, but thanks for the suggestion.
BTW very impressive project on your web page!

Is there also a suggestion for guys like me, who do not have enough money for premiere (and do not steal software)?

Final Cut Pro. Premiere is a pain-in-the-ass but I still have to use that sometimes too.

In a couple months, a product called AVID freeDV will be available. It’s like an AVID non-linear editor but without the bells & whistles. That’s what you’ll want to use. AVID makes some of the best NLE stuff available to professionals, and now non-professionals. But you’ll have to wait a little.

Woohoo! Cinelerra kicks a**! It’s my NLE of choice. That really doen’t help you though. Sorry. 8)

Cinelerra is about the biggest piece of crap this planet has ever seen. It’s nothing more than a random bunch of video code and a terrible attempt to build a ‘cool’ interface.

Personally, I do all animation / video post-production / a/v compositing stuff in Blender. Then, i export the Audio mixdown and master it in the studio, then, i use mjpegtools to encode to MPEG2.

If you buy a video capture/playback piece of hardware, you will likely find a NLE bundled with it. I use a Pinnacle DV500, It came bundled with Premiere. Cost was about $450, cheaper than retail for Premiere itself!

I use EditStudio (version 2) by Pure Motion (version 2). It was on a cover disk from 3d World a while back. Sometimes the same software is available in Computer Arts ( a sister mag.) I noticed that one of them (or Digit) will be offering version 3 but that will have a watermark.

Mike

I use Final Cut Express.

Works well, but I’ve bumped into its limitations (that don’t exist in FC Pro) more than once and am considering getting a second program to handle more difficult compositing (such as After Effects, or if I win the lottery, Shake).

Good luck!

VirtualDub cough!

Simple edits but still a VERY usefull tool.
