What Computer is better.

Hi all. It’s my first time in here and I’m trying to learn to do 3D modeling. I have to say that I love it.

My question is simple. I work in advertising and mostly we use MACS. In my house I have both pc and mac. What kind of
computer " graphic cards, memory etc." is better for having the best experience and getting out the most of blender?

In my office they are going to upgrade the computers with the latest mac book pro laptop 13" with 16gb of ram, but I don’t
know if this a good thing for someone trying to learn and realy do work in blender.

So any help will be appreciated. If my question you feal I end short please the more information the better.

Thanks evryone!!!

to start off go here http://www.blender.org/download/requirements/

if you plan to keep 3d only as a hobby then i5 + gtx 750ti

if not then i7 + a low end quadro like a cheap fx3700 will suffice.

I started on a laptop but I think you can have a better experience on a desktop !

Mac book pro is fine but 13” is small. do get 15” if you can or more.

Thanks for the quick responce, But I forgot to mention that the laptop is going to be connected to a bigger monitor. I was mostly refering to the capability of the laptop meaning “video card and processor”

Is there defently a better one MAC vs PC? cuase I know I can get better parts in a pc than a mac.

In terms of performance, for Cycles rendering at least, I believe the latest ‘grading’ was Linux > Mac > Windows. Windows received a massive boost in 2.64 (I think), but it’s still the slowest of the three to my knowledge; although it is a lot closer now than it was.

Look up recent news on the issues with AMD graphics cards. I know there’s been a recent fix to the Catalyst drivers that fix a lot of issues with using OpenCL for Cycles, but I don’t know how fixed it is.

So you say that at the end Mac is better for 3D than pc even when pc have more option and more high end in everything in computer parts?

No, for equivalent hardware Linux > Mac > PC, but if you can get a 30% faster CPU and a 200% faster GPU in a PC compared to a Mac (or in this case a nVidia card so Cycles works properly) for the same cost, the PC with Windows (or Linux) will be faster.

For the cost of a Mac Mini you get a beast of a rendersystem if you go for PC.
But the Mac Mini looks better.
