I’m using blender for two years in windows 32 bit and i started to have some problems because the number of nodes in my works.
I would like to try a linux operation system, but I dont know nothing about linux.
somebody can tell me what is the better distribution of linux to run blender?
I will maintain a dual boot system (linux and windows) and i will use linux only for blender.
It depends on your computer spec and your needs and preferences. I think all distros are able to run Blender well. I’m on WinXP/UbuntuLucid dual boot machine and it works fine. Some artists prefers Linux Mint or Ubuntu Studio, both based on Debian/Ubuntu distros. Ubuntu Studio is distributed as complete solution for almost any kind of media-art artist and It has tons of apps for image/sound/video/3d editing/processing. Obviously you can install those apps under any other distro if you need them.
Whichever system you choose be prepared to change you Windows habits and way of thinking about OS behavior and data structure - it’s different philosophy. And be prepared to learn a lot of things if you want to dig deeply into the system.

Thank you for your prompt answer.
I know i will have to learn a lot, but i think it will be good.
I have one more doubt and maybe you can help me.
The blender files created in linux operation system can be readed in blender runing on a windows, is that right?
Yes, there is no difference in saving .blend file. Win/Mac/Linux/?? - they are still the same.
Oh, there is light Arch Linux. The choice is up to you.
Have a nice days with Linux
Thank you again.
I visited the blender page and I saw there is a version of blender to Linux and a version to ubuntu 9.04.
In the ubuntu’s page a saw that the current version is 10.04.
what i have to do? should I install the ubuntu version of blender (9.04) with the last version of linux ubuntu (10.04)? Do you think that will be a problem?
Blender 2.49b is accessible via standard Ubuntu repository, like many other apps, so you don’t need to download it from developers page. If you want to play with B2.5x under Linux, just download it from official page or Graphicall.org and unpack it somewhere in home folder - I recommend builds from Fish.
Great thing about Linux distros is that you can install most of apps from official repository of given distro .
Under Ubuntu go to System>Administration>Synaptic and search for app - here Blender.
