What happened to "interactive mode" in 2.8?

…is it there? Is it not? How does one get info on it and learn how to use it?

Can one do proper games in it? And most importantly - DOES IT EXPORT TO WEB??

It’s still just an idea. As far as I’m aware there’s no code written yet.

When is it coming?

Btw, I found THIS video:

No idea, I’m afraid. I think the same developer as Everything Nodes is working on it so it’ll probably be after that.

Er - what’s “Everything Nodes”?

The system that’s going to replace the a lot of the current tools. Things like particles, modifiers, armatures, and more are all going to become node-based. This video talks more about it as well as a bit about interactive mode:

I’ll take a look at that video, but - “everything nodes” IS already IN 2.8, right? The one that came out yesterday?

No, it’s a huge project that is only going to be in 2.81 or 2.82 at the earliest.

Wasn’t Mr. Benoit assigned to the interactive mode?
I can see some crossroads of the two systems but I don’t think ‘IM’ is a priority for Jaques Lucke.

Ton said that interactive mode development is on hold for now.

Oh. So there’s no point learning much of 2.8 (at least THAT stuff), right -now-?

Blender 2.8 is the current release of Blender so it is the only version I would recommend learning. There is also an independent developer named Lubos Lenco who is working on a new game engine for Blender. It’s still in the very early stages of development, but it will be able to do all the things you asked about in your first post. You can find out more here:
Armory3D

No I meant that if that stuff is coming up, then why learn the CURRENT 2.8?
Yeah, I’ve already heard of Armory - but why are they doing 2 of the same thing, then?

Because 2.8 has so many new features that already put it far ahead of 2.79. And by learning all you can about it now, you’ll be much better prepared when the interactive features are added.

They’re not going to be the exact same thing. Armory is intended to be a full game engine, my understanding is that interactive mode is never going to be that sophisticated. Something meant more for real-time interactive walkthroughs.

I meant that when all that “everything nodes” stuff comes out, it will OBSOLETE stuff that’s -now- in 2.8 - isn’t it?

It’s going to roll out slowly, so first will be particles, other tools will be replaced later. So while some of the current features will eventually become obsolete, that’s never a good reason not to learn something. The software world moves so quickly, and if you put off learning what’s available now to wait for what’s next, you’ll find that you don’t get anything done.

Don´t wait around for that. Jacques believes particle nodes will be in 2.82 at the earliest, and it still might miss features then. And of course that´s only particles, the other node systems will be added incrementally. We´re probably looking at at least a year.

Thanks for that info, ape (why in GOD’S name do you have a name like that?? ) . So, if I’ve got this str8, you can “put stuff together” with these “nodes”, and with EEVEE, you can watch the result in Realtime?? Hmm… sounds kind of like this thing -

Btw, how would modifiers and armatures be “node based”?? With an armature, you stick the bone inside the model, so - how can that be node-ified? And modifiers? Those you just…apply - so how will THAT be node-ified? Like, what will I be able to DO with this node-based system that I couldn’t do before?
