Why can I no longer choose Yafray as my renderer??? The whole drop down box is just gone!
Yafray development is no longer ongoing so it has been removed from blender. Lookup yafaray as an alternative.

Hi,
Direct internal support for Yafray has been removed from Blender.
This means that there is no button in the interface anymore specifically for Yafray.
The new Yafray (called yaf(a)ray), can be used in Blender but it works as an addon script which you can get from the Yafaray website, along with yafaray itself.
Meh, Luxrender is nice and all, but it doesn’t support strand rendering, so it’s no go.
I’m going to attempt to get Yafaray working…

Search the forum for yafaray as there have been numerous threads on this very topic recently covering how to get yafaray installed and running. The most important thing is read the installation notes and the user manual as you will need to have installed the correct version of python for the version of yafaray you install.

Yafaray doesn’t currently support strand rendering either. You could use a group or object visualisation for a particle system though.
Back when blender had built in Yafray support, it did.
I agree nothing comes out in the render window not even the occlusion or faces or verts nothing! Just the nothing , So I never attempt to use the stupid fregin thing.
@LazyCoder: Although Luxrender doesn’t support strand rendering just yet, it may very well in the future. There are plans to integrate Luxrender into Blender. Check out this blog if you haven’t already. In earlier posts he discusses the integration.

I’m sick and tired of searching through the forums on how to get Yafaray to work! All I’ve been able to find are posts of latest builds (that have NOTHING to do with blender it seems) and people who manage to figure it out themselves and NEVER post up what they did.
Can somebody PLEASE just post up some decent instructions on what to do??? I’ve seen several posts referring to some mysterious installation instructions that just never seem to have a link!
I’ve followed the installation instructions several times re-installing the program and uninstalling it, and still no luck. YAFARAY DOES NOT WORK! Also, 2.49 has lagging issues on my computer! If I don’t like 2.50’s new interface, I’m never upgrading my Blender version again! I’d stick with 2.48 : /.

Ok this is absolute BULLST! Those so-called installation instructions basically just say “if it installed right, you have no worries”. WTF??? First of all, WHERE THE H* am I supposed to install it TO??? Just to Program Files\Yafaray?? Then how is blender supposed to know to look there???
I’ve installed it, and it DOES NOT show up in the Render dropdown menu… This is getting really old REALLY fast…

Always remember to have the CORRECT Python version installed, to uninstall previous Yafaray Installations and to look if the Export Scripts are located in Blender’s Script folders. Did you do all that?
AHA! RickyBlender’s post explained it all. I had no idea Blender even had a scripts directory in My Documents. All I had to do was copy the yafary_ui thing (or whatever it’s called) into the scripts directory in the program files part.

Anyone else having trouble getting Yafaray to work, just search for RickyBlender in the thread Myke linked me to.
I’ve installed Yafaray with the last Blender it works fine. Guys must also instal the last Python. The 2.6.2 I think. Its gonna work just fine. Now if you guys have never work with Yafaray before, you should not be frustrated at it like I did. Its a great Renderer, hope that its gonna render strands soon, but its great though. Check out the internet for tutorials, there are on the site of Yafaray itself too.
