What is "2+2"?

I think it was Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:

and…

It was Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

And no I haven’t been reading either of them lately.
It’s actually a parody off of the lines used to introduce The Stig plus the joke behind the number 42.

2+2 = Two too many.

Very interesting responses, it’s interesting to see how people take on such a seemingly easy question (even though it’s not, unless you know the answer).
So here’s the answer…
(drum-roll)
A problem encapsulated with quotation marks.
Thankyou all for playing.
:stuck_out_tongue:

:pI was closest.:stuck_out_tongue:

Didn’t realize it was over before I posted sorry…

Lets see…

#include <iostream>
int main()
{
int integer1;
std::cout << "2
";
std::cin >> integer1;
int integer2, sum;
std::cout << "2
";
std::cin >> integer2;
sum=integer1 + integer2;
std::cout << "Sum is " << sum << std::endl;
return 0;
}

It returns 4, but 22 makes more sense… This is nearly impossible!

quotation marks?

I will ask Python:

print(What is "2+2"?)

Answer:

    print(What is "2+2"?)
                       ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

hmmm
I think ? is rhetorical
lets skip it

print(What is "2+2")

Python gives us the answer!
Python can be so philosophical :yes:

after about 20 minutes of using Blender it becomes a high quality render in the output folder.

2 + 2 = " What Every You can Think"

It is all depend on the type of brain you have. :smiley:

That is just my view so please don’t take me wrong.

Orwell’s protagonist, Winston Smith, uses the phrase to wonder if the State might declare “two plus two equals five” as a fact; he ponders whether, if everybody believes it, does that make it true? The Inner Party interrogator of thought-criminals, O’Brien, says of the mathematically false statement that control over physical reality is unimportant; so long as one controls their own perceptions to what the Party wills, then any corporeal act is possible, in accordance with the principles of doublethink (“Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once”) [wiki]

1984, George Orwell, Part 3, Chapter 2

depends what 2 signifies; obviously there is some deeper meaning, so you could start by telling us:

what base, and is the value, two, representing any specific items?

I figured that out shortly after i explained my response. Can’t tell you how humiliating that was.

A mathematical question

you can really learn a lot about people from this…

lancer monster,and CiaoD are geeks, they use python to figure out simple math problems,

J.F.Robot… well…

ArMan is very imaginative

McThingy and place57 are jokesters

blonder is your down to earth no duh type

ctdabomb is probably some redneck who has never had a day of schooling in his life

tame relies on google too much

jackblack is a genius

an interesting note: no one said 4 o_O

It’s just like a BU ( blender unit). It can be whatever you want it to be.
For example, 2 Hens + 2 Toms = 4 Thanksgiving Dinners.

:yes:

Always missing the point of everything and saying something random that pops into his head?
Yep…sounds about right.

2+2 = 2*2 = 2^2

got all the easy ones :stuck_out_tongue:

“2+2” = two swans meet at a graveyard, each accompanied by their two bee-servants

2 + 2 = 4 (base >4)
2 + 2 = 10 (base 4)
2 + 2 = 11 (base 3)

believe it or not, but all this is correct
the result is always identic, but looks different on other base systems

all people think in base 10 system
here is a theory that we use base 10 because we have 10 fingers…
