What is the best way to go and why?

If you have a model, the next best step to do is :

A. rig and then texture

B. texture and then rig

Problem I’m thinking about is the UV mapping. If I make a map and then need to add extra loops in my model for rigging, then what happens? Do I have to start all over with the UV mapping and texturing … or how is this problem handled? That’s why I think A is a better choice, but I don’t have practical experience yet, so …

I have not tried much of that myself, but it may be good to do A because, like how you said, rig it then apply the texture, and if you have to afterwards you could adjust either the rig or the texture to compensate for any problems.

Wim, I am sorry that I cant help you with your question. Not sure why more have not replied. I would just like to say how awesome your model is. The mesh is beautiful and elegant, and I am looking forward to seeing it textured and rigged in the future.
Although the tutorials I have seen seem to go with texturing first, you have a good point about starting with the rig first instead.

Thanks , I’ll just try to see what will work:-)
