What is the deal with Blender's use (or lack) of multiple GPUs?

I have two 1070s and I’ve had to send away for a 3060 because Blender is constantly throwing GPU/cuda errors/GPU memory errors. I have one error that means I have to switch off one card, which is such a big shame because when they do work, they’re pretty quick with cycles GPU rendering.

I’d be tempted to buy a 2nd 3060 if Blender had full support of multiples. Makes no sense.

I think with the new Cycles X multi-GPU isn’t working yet, but I may have missed it…

I have not problems with multi GPU.

If you have two cards then one card will use some VRAM for other stuff like running Windows and things like that, so it does not have as much left for Blender as the second card. Therefore the first card might throw errors while the second one still performs correctly.
