What is the different between Subdivision modifier and Right click - Subdivide?

I tried to use Subdivision modifier on the door frame and then right click in edit mode → Subdivide, the results are different, can anyone explain this scenario to me?

The door frame contains many edges.
But the door is not.
This is a topology problem and requires an understanding of topology modeling.

Simple said: they are different algorithms. You do not need to understand the math (but it may help ). But fro sure have a look a the different results:
