What is up with all the blender domains .. they dont resolve

How ever hosts this site , and the blender.org and all the other main blender sites … why the heck does your domain not resolve without the www infront of the URL ?

This is an issue with your host … I would suggest it gets fixed .
I can imagine the amount of type in traffic this site is losing daily …

www.blender.org works
www.blender3d.org works

what is the problem?

http://elysiun.com resolves
http://blender3d.org resolves too

what’s the problem?

Martin

With www I can hit both of those …
Without … I get 404 for Blender3d.org
and eylsiun brings me to the server page , and then forwards me here … why ?
If I get this surely others do … the only other site Ive ever had this with , it was mine and a shitty host issue …
Im just looking out for you … lots of wasted traffic .
I only posted cause its been like that for me on all my PCs , not just this one … so I am sure its a DNS issue .

Trigger happy ?
did you read my post bro :o

Heres a few caps to show what I am talking about .

I’ve never heard of not using www for public websites. They only time I’ve seen no www, is when it’s a linking site, FTP, webhosting site or the like. And any site that wants any kind of traffic and DOESN’T use the www prefix, will reserve the www domain name anyway and have the traffic there redirected.

Everyone I know puts a www in front of everything by default when surfing.

Edit: And if anyone verbally told me to go to blender.org, I would assume the www, so would anyone I know. Even on TV commercials they say verbally “Go to Amazon dot com”, and people assume the www. It’s redundant to keep saying www all the time.

true about most people using www, but i’ve typed elysiun.com in before and it does get frustrating! (But it’s not really a huge deal).

Why the heck do you respond so boldly?

Next time ask friendly and I might give a decent response

agreed. it works for me, perhaps you should have asked someone else and gotten some more evidence before accusing…

it seems IE cant handle URL’s correctly

works fine with Mozilla Firebird :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow ,
Didnt mean to offend anyone at all …
I was just stating that this site could be losing 1000’s of hits each month .
Which of course could be of great importance to a community such as this .

Seems Ztonzy is correct about mozilla … weird .
However , I build websites and monitor traffic , and browser versions and mozilla is barely ever used although probally higher percentage here due to those of you on linux etc etc …

My applogies to anyone that was offended

/me giggles

It works on all browsers you silly people!
If it worked on mozilla before while it didn’t work in IE then it wasn’t a bug IE but a (bad) feature of mozilla.

Don’t be fooled by monitoring browser versions, a lot of cloaking goes round there!
Also I doubt this has lost any hits since people know about www. but they tend not to know about . so aslong as you don’t link to . people will automagicly type in www. And people who do know about . also know that alot of sites only work with www. [!]

Well .s it folks

Timothy

To be honest … if I can hit " noodles.elysiun.com " the problem is not with IE .
Its with the DNS …

I NEVER type in WWW … why do you people keep sayijng " know one knows about the www " what does that mean ?
You mean people think the HAVE to type it ?

I have them in my toolbar in Firebird, I never have to type them. Silly people who type URLs… :stuck_out_tongue:

Martin

Okay … well shit … I see where this is going to go .
If you guys want to loose traffic go ahead …

Theeth , many many people type in domains everyday , infact anyone who knows anything about the web and marketing ( site promotion ) knows that type in traffic is the most valuable of traffic on the web …

I dont care if this site gets all the traffic that tries to come here … but the community should …

Actually… yes. Yes they do. I personally don’t type www if I don’t have to, but if a site doesn’t work without it, I don’t just give up… I (like most people, including yourself) type the www.

Would it be more convenient to have the www and the non-www resolve to the same place? Sure. Is it a really big deal that causes sites to loose 1000s of users? Doubtful.

Assuming this is an appache server …

in httpd.conf (unix)
you’ll need to add a ServerAlias command without the www, it’ll look like this:
ServerName www.elysiun.com
ServerAlias elysiun.com

That will fix it … whether you guys think its a problem … check it out and watch the traffic over the next months or two … it WILL increase

BTW … a ping of blender3d.org without www came up dead ,
Elysiun didnt cause it pinged the server page instead of this site .

Again , I hope I am not offending anyone , but on the web , traffic is king , I mean shit … why is this site here ? TO GET VISITORS , right ? To grow … to make a larger community . even if this error is only costing you 1% of traffic … thats too much

Hey if not … forget this thread.

www.blender.org and www.blender3d.org aren’t even the same site

blender3d.org (which resolves) is the official Blender site while blender.org is the developers site.
