what is up with the different shadow buffer modes ???

2.43 featured a irregular shadow buffer, which seems to be history now.

Current version show a classical and classical-halfway, however I did not find any
documentation about it on Blender.org.

Anybody has a paper about it?

those posts talk about the raytraced shadows.

Check again, it’s still there (at the top of the list).
