What makes up a good render

I have been seeing sme insane render in this community
And I have tried to do something similar or even crazier, but it just doesn’t work out
So I wanted to ask that what exactly really make a render look realistic is it the ight, composition, textures or are you using another software except blender I don’t just understand are you people using the software I am using too

Once again, in my opinion, whether your scene will be looking good or bad mostly depends on the light settings you set up in your scene and how the light reflects on your objects.

Bare in mind that almost all good-looking things that we somehow have captured (photos, videos etc.) are made thanks to well-chosen lighting.

Making good renders is like any other art form- it takes a lot of practice :slight_smile: there are concrete things you can do, like have good lighting as mentioned, but it really boils down to artistic expression eventually, which requires a lot of experience. I’ve been using Blender for five years and it’s only within the last year that I’ve gotten renders I’m happy with

There are no short answers to that, in general when a artwork looks cool every parts of it are good enough to a point that everything is balanced.

Lighting can be cool, but if the models aren’t clean, out of proportion, or some of them lacks details, then something will seems off. And these little lack of attention can pile up quickly.

Now there are subjects more difficult than others, like if you do a product rendering you have only one object to handle, a studio lighting setup isn’t the most difficult, and materials are generally simple to recreate. So while it probably won’t end up being the most impressive image ( product rendering might be a bit boring compared to say a cyberpunk street) at least you’ll have less elements to manage therefore it will be simpler to get to a good result.

And from there you just have to put that together with a good composition to make a great render, it’s really up to you if you prefer to focus on the result or the craft in itself, and to take the longest road to learn about how to do everything by yourself. Obviously there are some middle ground there !

I would even go as far as to say that it’s dependent on your understanding of art and the fundamentals behind it. It simply isn’t enough to know which buttons to press in a given software and expect the results to be good. There are people having used blender or any similiar software for more than a decade and still make bad or mediocre renders. Before I try to spell this out, I just remembered that there is a relatively good video talking about it:

I think E-Cycles is optimized so you have to know less about technical details of rendering, but I have never used it.
