What modeling technique to use?

Hi there,

I would like to model this trophy (see picture). Any clues what modeling technique would be the best? Thanks a lot.

Hi dkalna,
this is difficult to answer. My favored technology is boxmodeling.
But this is my opinion.

Ciao

Building a base mesh out of quads that would work for subdivision surfaces and then sculpt the rest would be one approach.

Model like this should be made from number of parts. Parts can be always assembled to gather later if you like. The base can be built from cube and cone. Hockey stick can be built from cylinder. As for character, head, neck, chest and hip are symmetrical so I work on that first with mirror modifier. After it is roughed out, apply the mirror to make it a single mesh. Each arms and legs can be extruded out from the body. Sculpt it at the end.

Box modeling for the basic shape then sculpting for the details, most agreed.

Hi there, thank you for your responses… now what’s box modeling?

I think you have to go to school for a while

Good luck.

It will probably be the case that you model different parts of the trophy in different ways. The trophy itself could consist of a “group” of a number of separate Blender objects.

For instance: the base, the statue, the thing the statue is holding, and any plaques or engraved pieces, might be separate objects. Thus, if you want to change any particular part, you can focus on just that part.

ok, left for school… thanks

May help you to understand.
The Body is created with boxmodelling and the head with faces:
