What other software does have, but Blender doesn't

Hi all

Perhaps there are already topics on this subject (don’t know which words I must use)but I going to ask it anyhow:

What makes other 3d Modelling software better then Blender?
I ask this because I see lots of amature models in Blender.
That doesn’t make it a good name for itself.

I mean, take 3ds Max for example; you will find photorealistic models with it, but with Blender…nahh…
BUT what is is that makes Blender so underestimated?
The difficulty?
The real lack of this power?

I find the Blender interface and modeling quite capable, no lack there.
Where it falls short for me is rendering. I can’t commit to blender at this time, not because I can not model in blender, but I can not get good renders out of it.
This new release supports Menmtal Ray, I think, but then you need have mental ray. I think a better step may have been to simply make it work with Yafray in an intuitive manner. In 2.42 there were unsupported parameters in blender that did not get transfered to yafray, the lights did not work intuitivelty for me.
I don’t think blender is underestimated. If so, then why did Discreet give elephant dream author over 4 million dollars to stop using blender?

Do you mean poorly done models / animations?

You’re not looking in the right places!

What does other apps have that Blender doesn’t? Mind you, the list is shrinking by leaps and bounds every few months or so. If talking about reputation, the others had a huge head start on Blender, but Blender is being used by more and more professionals every day, so it’s reputation will grow as more top level work is done with it.

IMHO (in my humble opinion) of course.

Where did you get this info???

I’m guessing it was from this story:

I believe the ‘April Fools’ part was lost to some.

uh, I think he got that from an APRIL FOOL’S DAY joke post…

Ok, so you guys have thrown down the gauntlet, eh!? SO, I challenge ALL Blender Experts at Texturing, and I think you know who you are, to provide, to this thread within 30 days, a photorealistic rendering of a female face, from brow to chin, using only the Blender Internal Renderer. I know you can, and I know I cant, but hey, let’s bury this fallacy once and for all. You must use 2.43 RC3 or prior. NO POST-PRO in PHOTOSHOP. You must supply the packed .blend file for verification. Your image textures may be developed using any graphics image editing program. OK? GO!!! Animation is not required, although a 30-frame gif of an eye-twitch or lip twitch would go a long way. Thank you.

I can not tell much about the art, and rendering side, it is not my goal. I am tryng to create a content creation environment for my experimental game engine. I have downloaded and evaluated max and SDK, at this perspective I can assure you that internal structure of max is primitive, and it is using the same code base from old times, useless data structres which seem hacked for new fatures, even Autodesk admits this in the manual some ways, really awkward scripting language which is slow as hell. Blender is much more powerfull at this point.
