What to do when installing win drivers stalls ?

Anyone ever have this problem, when you install a driver and the whole systoms freeze ? How is one suppose to solve this problem, does this have to do with IRQ conflict ?

irq conficts are no longer a problem

in windows xp there is a system restore thing and spiffy ways to remove evil drivers. I don’t know exactly how it all works, but you need to press f8 (I think) before xp starts and choose the correct option, or something.

I don’t run xp

98 se here

when’s the last time you re-installed win98 se?
you need to re-install about every 2 years

oops.

I’ve been going for three years. Complete system refresh (and addition of RedHat 9) due in August 2004. Sooner would be better.

Well, if you suspect the IRQ conflict you can always check your IRQ’s manually from right clicking “My computer” and from the popup menu choose “Properties”

Check your hardware configs by doubleclicking on wanted device and chek their resources. Tough you see a yellow ! in front of every device which is confilcted or non functional.

Question… what is that of re-installing W98 every two years? :expressionless:

Beats me, my sister didn’t even had it for a year, but there’s always games being installed and kids always using them, I try to convert them to linux, but they wanted windows.

Well sounds like conflict.

Is it isa or pci card. Can u manually(by jumpers or dip) switch cards settings?

If pci do you have another empty slot where u can put card?

If not try to pull cards one by one off to find device wich cause conflict.
Atleast in Abit’s manual tell what slots use same irq.

Hard to give accurate help without more info

ATX mainboard HP Vetra LT, nuff said, the only juper card thats in there is a modem, maybe need to set the modem on a differents IRQ such as 5/14 ?

Argh HP machine u have there, so it doesn’t show in boot list of cards and irqs.

Anyway have mobo free slots to try card on?

Mobo give resourses by pci slot they use(well in theory anyway) and by swapping plases u probably find working order for them.

Another way is to take all cards off, reboot, and put em pack one by one.
I had one machine(it had woodoo3) and everytime i reinstalled windoze i had to do this is specific order otherwise it hangup :o

blah, I just put a softmodem in there and keep the hard one for myself.
