2.49 because of the game engine + no crash + easier interface [ I tried both for an enough time to say this ]
i don’t need smoke and stuff right now
will re-migrate to 2.5 when it stops crashing that much
Yea, its a bit early to say, but I was thinking 2.53 would win out.
But I still find it chrashes too much for real work, everyone seems to say “why not do it in 2.5” but its just not there yet, especialy if you are using python!
I use the latest 2.5 builds, I find the new interface is really good even if it is not 100% there yet its a lot easier for me to work with. Been able to load background images on each axis view and having tools separate from the properties means I can work with one maximized 3d window without jumping back and forth to different windows every time I need a different background image.
For stills its really stable and has not crashed for me in terms of modeling, sculpting, lighting and rendering I wouldn’t know how stable it is if you used the game engine or did animation is I don’t do any of that.
I use both. 2.49 for basic modelling cuz i find the more commonly used modifiers easier to work with in 2.49, then when basic modelling is complete i open it in 2.53 for final modelling touches, materials, compositing and animation etc. Havent done much in the GE though. Still trying to learn it.
I use 2.49 still, mainly because all the modelling tools I like to use aren’t in 2.5 yet, or at least I haven’t found them. I am looking forward to switching to 2.5 when all the modelling tools are ported over.
I’m not sure when it actually happened, probably when I ported my most useful scripts from 2.49, but I’ve been using svn for a long time now and have only been using 2.49 for baking and weird workflows to workaround the odd bug here and there… render speed, the new sculpt and the sequencer in 2.5x svn as well as easy multi monitor support are the big wins…
it’s all a lot more stable than it was too…
I use 2.49. The newer versions have a lot of bugs, there are some tools missing and the interface (+ hotkeys) is very different.
But I will absolutely use the 2.6 version in future, if it will be stable, bugless.
I used 2.49 until I figured out how to use the BGE in 2.5 - just by selecting Blender Game instead of Blender Render…

but it can’t compile EXEs
I never really understood what SVN means… I’ll vote once i’ll know the difference between 2.53 GraphicAll latest ans SVN… :o
2.53 because i don’t want to reconfigure my interface settings every week…
I’m using the 2.49 simply because it’s stable and I have little time for my tasks.
The 2.5-2.6 is awesome and I’ll use it when it will be stable and with all the 2.49 tools (still missing the bevel tool, not the bevel modifier).
In the past I used to start with beta of coming versions when they were available, but they had all the things ready, the bugs, if any, were the minor issue, while now 2.5, changing everything, forces the dev team to spend more time and effort for the transition.
Happy Blendering.
interesting result so far its still a small sample of users but over 2/3 of people are using some version of 2.5x
I’m using 2.49 for a couple of reasons:
Btw, i use A, BB, B and C the most. 2 of them were changed, so yeah…
I have downloaded all official versions of blender (ever) and 1 SVN, but i dont’ actually blend that much… :{
and what is you use it?
I am used to use the latest stable and the SVN and some GSOC builds like Freestyle.
i use the latest 2.5x build from the graphicall.org these days, even though i had installed 3 versions of blender!
i believe there’s an Add-On for that.
