I was wondering what you guys thought was the best game ever and why. Mine has to be The ultimate doom by ID games, the same guys who recently made Return to castle wolfenstein.
Final Fantasy VII. Best RPG game IMO, as well as the best game I have ever played.

Still the best turn based strategy game ever made. Beats Jagged Alliance and bretheren single handed by making everything much better.
Tough my bets game varies much, somedays it might be Planespcae torment, which is the best game made with Baldyrs Gate engine.
Best RGP in pc is Arcanum.

Chess is indeed a fine game, the difficulty is finding someone to play against - at least it is in my family 
Bridging the standard / computer game void, the best chess game has to be Chessmaster 9000, it has excellent tutorials and good levels of difficulty.
That said my favourite game ever is probably Shogun Total War. Good all round strategy and tactical skills required. Th real-time battles are to die for - use the terrain, and combined arms to crush the opposition!
I have to agree with Stefano. Even though I’m lousy in Chess it’s still the bast game, though poker and other “deck” games are goos too. As to computer games: I have three:
1)FFVIII (8 is alwas better than 7).
2)Simcity (call me a nerd and i’ll slap you!).
3)Chess! (in all of the digital virsions).
Go is a lot better than chess IMO. And bridge is a great card game.
Chess is the way.

Console game: Sonic and Knuckles with sonic 3 lockon
Board game: Monopoly, then chess (though I’m not very good at it)
Final Fantasy 7!!
The first game I went nuts over was Mechwarrior 2. At the time there was nothing quite like it.
My favorite game of all time is still Half-life. No other game had me glued to my computer like it did.
A very close second is System Shock 2. Man is that a cool scary game. As a matter of fact I am currently playing it again and it still gives me the willies.

actually, the game i liked best was Anno 1602 (i think it’s 1602 AD in english). The best strategy games ever!!! Except for 1503, the successor, which didnt want to run on my computer properly…
