whats new in blender?

So I’ve been off line for a good year now and in the mean time been working on my short animation in version 2.46. In 3D world they say Blender 2.5 will be out this month. So what have I missed?

Hmm, well…too much to list here really.

The best bet is to check out the blender 2.5 development thread. If that is too much to digest for you (and I suspect it is), then check out Mfoxdogg’s great series of video tours charting the progress of 2.5:


Theres a good few hours of watching there, and it should get you up to speed fairly quickly.

2.46! Wowsers. It was a great release and all, but go nuts on http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ and check out the 2.5 developments, optimised 2.49 builds and a heap of other toys.

All the development is great, but two more blogs that I like to follow -

And the release logs should give you a good head start on new features.
