So I’ve been off line for a good year now and in the mean time been working on my short animation in version 2.46. In 3D world they say Blender 2.5 will be out this month. So what have I missed?
Hmm, well…too much to list here really.
The best bet is to check out the blender 2.5 development thread. If that is too much to digest for you (and I suspect it is), then check out Mfoxdogg’s great series of video tours charting the progress of 2.5:
Theres a good few hours of watching there, and it should get you up to speed fairly quickly.
+1 for the Mfoxdogg videos.
2.46! Wowsers. It was a great release and all, but go nuts on http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ and check out the 2.5 developments, optimised 2.49 builds and a heap of other toys.
All the development is great, but two more blogs that I like to follow -
And the release logs should give you a good head start on new features.
Again, way too much to list since 2.46.
One last shameless plug - http://durian.blender.org/
WAOWSERS got me some catching up to do. Will check out the links startin tomorrow - cheers guys. Gods I wish I stuck at the CGI when i was in college!!
What is the durian project?
hoop! you forgot to list:
@Felix, I check a lot of stuff all over the place. Might be nice to compile a ‘development’ list though for people to follow rather than the monster sized thread here.
- Custom shortcuts & UI
- Raytracing Optimizations
- VBO Optimization
- New Particle System
Mmm… what else?
If you really want to know what has changed since 2.46, start with the release log links provided by BenDansie. The latest updates won’t fill you in on all of the development details since 2.46.
Here’s another good link for all of the release logs. http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/
excellent - thanks for that. I’ll be doing my studying for the next while in anyways
