Hey guys, Im feeling the need of having an all in one plugin for hard surface modelling. What do you guys used, and whats the plugin that will have all in one- I heared about hard ops + box cutter… and theres a lot more right now. Dont know which one to use :L
I just saw your message and I’m surprised that no one has replied. I’m using HardOps and BoxCutter, primarily because there’s so much documentation out there about them. The authors are constantly improving their stuff and they’re true to their word about free updates as well.
There might be other addons available that do basically the same thing, and these addons might be a little less expensive, but you really can’t go wrong with HO and BC.
If you’re interested in trying different things just because you have specialized interest in addon development or different hard-surface workflows, it might be worth researching and/or picking up an alternative in addition to HO and BC.
I see, I really don’t know how you find the thread as it must’ve been buried deep under haha! I’ve got your point.
I have one question for you tho, when you do a hard surface model, how does the topology look like in HO? I mean when you do a simple boolean operation in blender- i get ngons and two edges close to the face. Does it mean that i might have to do one more topology phase IF i ever needed to worry about the topology of my model?
You have a good point in that topology in general isn’t ideal with Boolean operations. Using HO/BC doesn’t make a difference there. You’re still going to get ngons.
As far as I know, if we have a mesh that we need to deform for animation, any modeling using Booleans is going to require an additional topology phase - just like you mentioned.
