What's the best way to clone characters?

I’m sure there is something here in the forum somewhere but I
don’t know the correct terms for this.

I’m just wondering what the best way to have cloned characters is.
Is there a way to link a them (armature/object/etc…)to the scene
from character’s blend file and have each clone act independently?

If yes, would you please explain the process to me?

This depends on if you have actions/ NLA strips etc. already assigned to the character and/or if you want to add new interactive actions (between the clones) …

If all you need are a few walkabout characters you can just link them, but if you need actual easy interaction between characters it is best to append them …

Thanks Vertex Pusher.

When I append more than one of the same character into a scene,
will there be any problems with them having the same object names, etc.?

I’m trying to learn ahead of time. I have not yet put this into practice since
I’m not at that part of the project yet. But this is helping me out.

No . Blender will just rename them object.001,002 etc.

Awesome. I don’t know how I got here, but I had the mindset
that Blender doing that auto 001, 002, etc. was something to
try an avoid. It makes sense to make use of it now that I’m
using lots of copies of something. Thanks again for you Blender
wisdom.
