What's up with Alt A?

I am following a tutorial to model a candle. I have gotten to a stage where I have to add particles of flame. One instruction is to press Alt A and it supposed to let me "see the particle flowing from the circle ".

Thing is, I don’t see it happen when I press Alt A. I do i perform this task?

Alt-A is animation preview and is sensitive to the area where your mouse is. Try pressing Alt-A with your mouse over a 3D window.
