Hey guys. this my recreation of Wheatley from portal 2. enjoy and judge. the wall textures were done by this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/ColossalSoft
That looks great, only thing I have to say is that the textures on the walls look sort of flat.
And maybe finding cleaner textures where you can see a little bit more grunge on Wheatley. If its possible try working on his glowing eye. Those aren’t too big of a deal if you can’t find any better textures, because it looks incredible to me
Thank you for your comment! A lot of the textures looked flat because I used ambient occlusion- this completely destroyed the normal maps … and the glowing eye could use some work for sure.
Special thanks for sharing your work! it looks amazing
Haha, thats not my work. Thats just a reference image that you could use to improve on it. Ah so AO destroyed it? did you add or multiply it on there?
-_- add… I should’ve known.
So does it look better with multiply? Since blender now has a linear workflow through the color management, environment light has the tendency to even out the shading, and should therefore be kept at a minimum when appropriate.
reminds me on this fantastic game…
uhh somewhat. the normals resurface, soft shadows are kept, but the entire scene loses lighting unless directly applied by a lamp.
You can balance that out somewhat with environment lighting, just remember to keep it at a very low energy level since the new linear workflow is very sensitive in dark environments. Or maybe throw in some more light, perhaps in a three-point-lighting setup?
I would agree with the latter. After multiply, the entire scene depends on lamp lighting, so a three-point lighting should work. one isn’t sufficient enough
I’m different!..
I just had to say that!
hehe xD very nice
