When I try to follow path after rigging my model teleports away

I haven’t been using blender for long so this might have a very easy fix but I couldn’t find anything online so I came here for help.
I have a very basic car model with multiple objects. I found a rig-a-car addon upon someone’s suggestion and it worked just fine until this point. I rigged the car and boned the main points, everything was working fine. So I created a Bezier curve as a path for the car to follow. But when I add a follow path constraint and choose the bezier as the target my model teleports to a random point. I applied object transformations to everything thinking that was the root of the problem but it didn’t fix anything. My model still teleports away. At best it follows the curve a few feet away from the original placement. I really need help fixing this problem. Should I just start over and rig from the beginning?
