When the reindeers quit ... (updated 11/12)

(Fallen) #1

… Santa decided to go on foot. Tell me what you think about what I’ve got so far  :

When I get to texturing, the snails will leave behind a nice slimy trail  and I’ll be tweaking them so they don’t all look the same (the front one will have a red nose too). Any suggestions appreciated :stuck_out_tongue:

(smurf23) #2

Wow awsome! :stuck_out_tongue:

(MrMuscly) #3

Hahahaahahaha, hiilarous!

Maybe the sledge (or was that sleigh?) is a bit thin? Santa’s quite fat so it has to be steady for when he hops on! :stuck_out_tongue:

(womball) #4

Haha, great style and idea! You could make santa thin, or fit, or even better a santa snail! Never seen a snail with a nose before.

(cipix) #5

Very funny. I wonder how the snails “walk” on the snow … but thats only a minor detail  .

Well you could enter Weekend Challenge with that, the topis is this week “Alternative Transportation” and I this fits nicely.

(PR) #6

Beutiful model and concept! Congratulation!

(Spin) #7

Well, that is cute! I hope to see that in full Christmas colors! Snow and the whole Xmas thing too.

(Fallen) #8

Wow thanks! Lots of quick replies lol

That’s were I got the idea, but I didn’t think I’d get it done in time – but it’s actually moving along pretty quick

Well there’s a first for everything, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways, here’s some progress on setting the scene:

The snow meeting the sidewalk still needs some work, along with the curb on the other side of the street :x sigh. And now I’m off to texture the snails and the sled!

(cara-rj) #9

Really good work so far!

Capture the Christmas spirit!
Hope to see it in colors soon!

(Woodman5k) #10

hehe, way to bring the concept to fruition!!

I would like to see a seat in the sleigh though. I think that is a missing element.

(Desoto) #11

There’s going to be a lot of children who won’t get gifts until July.

My first question is about your scene… where is that supposed to be located? If at the north pole… why is there road with lines on it?

My only other question is about your snails… right now there obviously duplicates. I was wondering if you planned on giving them slight personalities like the different reindeer have in various interpretations of the famous eight.

(Fallen) #12

Thanks again for the replies :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not exactly sure where it’s supposed to located (lol), but basically the concept is they were trying to use the road – and it didn’t work. And yes, I’m going to tweak them all so they’re different.

Here’s my progress for the night:

Any suggestions appreciated (need too  ) Almost all of the textures are WIP, because most of them are off in one way or another :x . I just need some opinions: which textures should stay and which should go/be changed? And also, ideas on shell and the actual snail textures – mine failed miserably lol :expressionless:

Another (small) update:

Render right out of blender:

Render + post pro (for fun  ):

Again, C & C welcome – especially about the materials :stuck_out_tongue:

(womball) #14

The road and snow need a lot of work. The road needs bump mapping and needs to be a smaller texturewise. The snow make work better as a mesh it shouldn’t be too hard to model snow I think.

(Clean3D) #15

Lol, this is great! Santa’s so late that he’s delivering in the daytime!

I think that the materials are ok, but the lighting could use some work. At the moment, the light is casting fairly long shadows, so I assume that it’s morning. However, the color of the light and shadows doesn’t make is look like morning. If it’s near noon, I think that the color of the lights is alright, but they need to be pointing almost straight down. You might also make the lights a bit more blueish so that the image is more frosty and feels cold.

That’s just my amateur opinion, however.

Fantastic work! Can’t wait to see more.

(sundialsvc4) #16

So… Santa’s working for the U. S. Postal Service now, eh?

Good work!

(Edeehem) #17

FLYYYYYYYYYYY LIIIIIKE AN EEEAAAAGLLEEEEEEE

(Fallen) #18

I agree, good idea (about the lighting)

Yeah, I’m not sure why the road looks so bad atm, it’s super high resolution (maybe too high? lol)… Maybe it’s because it’s being squashed; I’ll try UV mapping and see if it looks better. And I’ll fix the snow later, kind of a placeholder right now.

I’m working on more modeling right now (of what now is the empty wall with a door) and more texture tweaking. I thought about maybe instead of having the snow everywhere, I could make it more like spring or summer – like it took sooo long that this scene takes place a couple months after Christmas. Tell me what you think, I’ll try both for now

(Fallen) #19

I’m back! I got super busy and didn’t have time to use the computer ( :o ) Anywho, here’s the update (at 50% size):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/munkysr2cool4u/wtrqscene.jpg

And because you probably can’t read the sign due to the size, it says “North Pole” Basically just a bunch of texture fixing and a scene adjustments.

Bigger and better quality render coming later – I’ll let it go overnight at 100%

C&C welcome
