When will blender get it's own zsphere ?

When will blender get it’s own zsphere ?

What is a zsphere? Modeling using a blobmesh?

Yes, please: more details…

ZBrush ZSphere

Zspheres are meant for making a base mesh in a program with no modeling tools. It’s still faster then modeling, but if we get unlimited clay and quad remeshing we will be even faster

we should ahve in near futur hopefully some good built for Unlimited lcay
but qhere can we find a built for testing the quad remeshing ?

would be nice to test this feature !

happy 2.5

You can get something similar with
Blender MetaBall /MetaTube / MetaPlane / MetaEllipsoid / MetaCube
and then Convert to Mesh.

When something as ZBrush zspheres in blender? Never. Is wasting time in create something that no “normal users” will use. Today it is sculpting and then retopo the mesh.

After 2.6 comes out Ton said that a list of features wanted will be created and the priority will be for the features of people that gives money to code them. I can’t see something like zspheres going up in that list.

make professional things with Blender, Blender will more popular, and the developing speed will be faster
maybe

This is sad…

Zspeheres have a few advantages over metabals and unlimited clay.
they instantly have a cleaner topology (not perfect though), no marking for remeshing is required to get that topology. You can make rings.
In everything else, Unlimited clay is superior.
One problem though - I’m not sure if Quad remeshing will even be finished… This would leave a big hole in the UC workflow.

For those who don’t know what zspehres are:

You draw tubes made out of spheres and Zbrush can quicly make a mesh out of it.
When using ZSketch on Zspheres you can go even deeper with the detail:

I don’t think Zspeheres are ever comming to blender, basically because we have unlimited clay. Try box modeling for now; like make a box, extrude the limbs out of it and add a subsurf - same result as a ZSphere stick figure.

Oh and, you don’t have to do profesional things with blender, it won’t make development of Zspeheres to Blender any quicker.
It depends from the Coders, if they want to code it, not the artists, i think…

I personally would love going in the Mudbox direction instead ZBrush direction with sculpt tools, so no sad for me.

I never tried mudbox.
What base mesh tools does Mudbox have?

Nah, not really. Once you get your hands on unlimited clay, youll be more happy then with ZSpheres.
tried Sculptris?

why zspheres and not voxels

Z-spheres are awesome. Porting them to Blender would be a huge undertaking.

But it makes it possible to construct base meshes for sculpting in next to no time.

Character artists are now constructing thier base-mesh in z-spheres. The new Z-spheres 2 allows you to put muscles onto your spheres to give a more truly organic feel. They can put the base together in an hour or two and start sculpting. They only touch polygons at the very end when they retopo the mesh to get good geometry for animation or normal maps.

The work flow of 1. Make a basic base-mesh to sculpt in your 3D app, then take to ZB is disappearing fast. Soon it will be all in ZB, with just the retopoing done in a ‘traditional’ 3D app (and you can retopo in ZB if you want to).

  1. why zspheres or “unlimited clay” and not voxels?
  2. scuptris belongs to Pixologic now. Why?
  3. zspheres are useless IMO (being a zbrush user). Blender has box modeling, much better and more clear topology.
  4. Re-topology is the weaker point of zbrush AND blender!
  5. Auto re-topology is the present of 3DCoat.

My favorite workflow: 3DCoat>zbrush>blender or in any other random combination LOL

zspheres is an old story, now zsketch and some other useless tools. Useless because of the lack of re-topology.

What would be cool, would be to use the ‘solid’ grease pencil to lay out shapes and have Blender fill in the basic shape in polys/unlimited clay.

Something like this?

Watch this video if not already.

I really hope so, 3D-coat doesn’t tell me much (plus it is just to costly for using one feature and I have to many health related bills) but I have used the auto retopo tool in a trial and I really like it.

But if I’m not mistaken they where planning quad remeshing also in meshlab.

Auto re-topology

Wow that sounds so good…imagine to be able to just box model a character real quick then start sculpting. Then when you are done click a button and get perfect topology…

I have no experience with zspheres or anything a like, but doesn’t array sketching do something similar?
