where do I get post pro?

Every one talks about it and i was wwondering where to get it. is it free…if not how much is it?

You’ll be lucky to get it for $2000. j/k

Post pro is just a term for “Post production”, which is usually done in ANY image editing program to touch up an image to some degree.

If you get the GIMP it’s completely free.

“Post-production” refers to any of the many processes that occur after shooting of the film has “wrapped.” This includes all of the editing, color-timing, audio, and so-on.

On a very limited (but very adequate) scale, Blender can do all of these things. Other toolsets, like the iHome suite on every new Macintosh (Garage Band, iDVD, iMovie) can do much more. And of course, the professional-level suites are also available in price-ranges around ~$1,500(US).

An excellent book on the subject (imho), written by “a good ol’ film guy,” is Digital Editing With Final Cut Pro 4. The product-specific technical stuff in this excellent book is truly secondary to all he has to say about the post-production process. (It really doesn’t matter what tool or what version you use, because the real subject-matter is the what, not how.) He even has a pretty substantial section on doing edits with actual celluloid film. A DVD included with the book has an actual film, with problems, ready for you to edit.

thanx. i use gimp alot.i just thought it was a program

yeah it is, but you gotta sell your soul to the devil to get it :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you mean iLife 05, which can also be purchased for $79 and is now capable of HD.

Final Cut Express HD $299 ($99 edu-price or upgrade) for editing and quite a bit of post production.

Motion ($299) does some serious stuff and has received great reviews from the pro/pro-sumer mags.

and when you do it (post process) to your 3d renderings, people here will ask you to post the “original” rendering too, and then they say "oh, it’s a shame you had to resort to postprocessing.

which is strange.

%| Yep. That’s what I meant. Final Cut is a great little product and, for video-only work, Express should be all you need.

Yes, it certainly is. Maybe they’ve never done post-processing before. But I don’t think there’s any other way to do a complete project. Especially if you consider the Sequence Editor as being a “post-processing” tool (as in “post-render”), once you learn how to use it you use it constantly.

What has really been enlightening to me, on this museum kiosk project that I talked myself into … :o … (“ahh, what fools these mortals be…”) … is just how much material you cut, and re-arrange and re-sequence and wind up not-using. You can spend hours of computer-time grinding away at stuff that winds up on the virtual cutting-room floor, and you feel really dumb (and you are really dumb…) for having rendered it in the first place. In CG, post- production is really pre- production, because there’s no sense rendering and perfecting what you’re not going to actually use.
