Hey, folks!
As part of my continuing effort to explore the emotional potential of an image, I developed this study. I started this task with a very simple briefing: create an image to celebrate the end of summer while exploring some features I’m not super familiar with (like Geo Nodes!). With that in mind, I did some quick sketches to set the mood I wanted to work with, and then I started blocking out my scene.
This image was built as a representation of a silent, solitary witness to the last sunset of summer. It’s a place of contemplation, but also a place of transition, and I tried to bring some hints of that into my poetics.
I have a lot of difficulty working with environments that are purely natural, which made this whole exercise quite challenging for me. I was also trying to get a really good-looking sky without using an HDRI, as an effort to create my own custom sky.
I also set up some constraints for myself:
-
I wanted to work only with Blender’s Sky Texture for lighting, and nothing else, as an effort to learn more about how to use it.
-
I also wanted to use volumetric clouds, and I ended up creating them using Geometry Nodes, which worked incredibly well.
Other than that, the bench is a model from Megascans, and all the other assets are from Blendkit (except for the clouds, which I made myself). I also made some adjustments to the materials to fit my needs.
The scene setup is quite simple, and most of my real effort in this exercise went into lighting and composition.
Despite being quite satisfied with the outcome, I still think there’s a lot of room for improvement. For instance, I would love to push it toward a more realistic result. But… that’s a continuing effort.
Please, let me know if you have any questions (or feedbacks, why not?!) about it!
Cheers!
