Any advice on where to find remote collaborators for a short fan-film? I don’t live in a creative hotspot so live meetups not really a thing I can rely on.
I’m keen on developing something within the Aliens universe (heavily reliant on CG) and was inspired by FOX’ Alien 40th Anniversary Shorts project from 2018: https://tongal.com/project/Alien/#tab-brief - didn’t have the time back then.
I’ve an outline, some assets to start, and some composited test scenes, but realize my limitations and this to be a major effort so, willing to give up creative control to bring people on and get it done.
For now, flying around Greeble’s awesome dropship:
The best advice I can give is to bring your passion forward in a way that inspires other people to join your project.
I see that you aren’t interested on collaborating on someone else’s idea, you are interested in getting other people to work on your idea.
Why should they care about your passion project fanfic about a 45 year old franchise? If you are driven by your passion, then you will draw people in.
Just keep working on it and sharing your results. Bring your work to the table repeatedly. Show what you have to offer and how cool your idea really is. Inspire people with your project. If you don’t get a single collaborator, don’t let that stop you. Keep going. Do the best you can and the most you can. If people like what they see, they will be interested in helping out where they can, but you cannot make the entire project dependent upon the free labor of other people,
If you just want other people to do the work for you, then stop. These forums are littered with similar projects, they all die.
That’s really good advice @SterlingRoth and basically what I would tell … did tell myself. I’ve been doing what I can when I can with the aim of releasing compelling bits and bobs here and there. And that is what I’ll continue to do. If nothing else I find a good project to be catalyst for learning, necessity is the mother of type of thing. Thanks!
You’re welcome, the fact that you can take a little bit of a harsh reality check as constructive feedback is quite telling about your constitution. Being able to look clear-eyed at a large challenge and continue to pursue it is a skill that will serve you well in your endeavours.
That sounds like an awesome project! Your Aliens-inspired concept art is fantastic, the lighting and details on the dropship are great. For finding collaborators, have you tried Blender Collab? It’s a subreddit specifically for Blender users looking to work on projects together. Also, checking out the forums on Polycount might help - they have a big 3D art community.
