Which is the best way to render a movie

Avi raw, or avi jpg, ?? im not sure which is better. and does changing the frame rate really effect it? cuz i cant see a change. and does the quality actually effect it too? well i guess im just dumb cuz these are all pretty straight forward quesitons…lol… probably with straight forward answers. ok im out… joe

Raw or Jpeg, depends on what you are going to do with it, and what program you will use for post processing. Check which your program prefers. I like Raw, and yes quality affects it, more noticeable after post processing. Frame rate will depend on what you want to watch it with.

Quality only affects AVI Jpeg, not AVI raw (obviosuly, they are raw  )

Personally I render every frame as a separate TARGA image, and then recompose in the Sequence editor. Only then I use some compression.

This is the industry standard way of rendering an animation. The upside to rendering individual frames is that if Blender crashes for some reason, you won’t lose your entire animation. AVI files become corrupt and useless if blender crashes- even at frame 99 of 100!

TARGA files are pretty much universally accepted by post production packages such as Adobe After Effects or Premier and all the way up to the “big boys” like Discreet Smoke. Of course you can use the sequence editor inside of blender to compile the frames into a video (Like S68 mentioned).
