i want to do an architectural rendering (abstract) in blender.
i will modell the building in an external cad-software and import it via dxf, which is easier for me, because i have all 2D data in this software to generate the 3D out of it.
now my question is: i will build the model in real units (1m=1unit). as it’s quite a big building (120mX120m): would you scale the building so that it comes into blender in a smaller scale, or would you enlarge the scene in blender to fit the modell? would the second method bring up problems (i think of light, shadows, cameras, data etc.)
danke bestens,
what means to “adjust lights correcty”. i tried it once, and i had to scale the lights or to put them very far away (especially spots) so that they fit the modell. is this the way to go? i remember that i became difficulties with the shadow buffer, is this possible?
well each light has a distance and settings like fall of etc. for that purpose you have to select settings which relate to the scale of you model.
radiosity could help you alot with getting better renderings but will take some time to get them right
the hemi light type is pretty nie since it is distance indepentend.
o.k. i will give it a try “non-scaled”. i will post more specific question when i run into problems during work.
about hemi lights: they don’t cast shadows, do they?
i don’t want to use radiosity, cause ii want the pictures to be rather abstract. otherwise i would use radiance by greg ward, to be honest.
i live in düsseldorf so the “ruhrgebiet” is quite near. arbeitest du jetzt in den staaten?
Only spot lights cast shadows in Blender. But you can use a hemi light for light then use a spot light with shadow only for shadows without effecting the light of the hemi.
Paradox
paradox: thanx for your idea.
never thought about this, but it will avoid that the border of the spotlight is visible, which is always a problem - great
concering the shadows - if i use one spot on a large modell (as sun), the shadows will not be parallel like they should be (al least you can put the spot very far away, but that’s not very nice in handling). is there another method to achieve these parallel shadows?
sorry guys for the german parts, further down it goes on in english
back to the “only shadow” option for spots. anybody has experienced the fact, that the objects get darker than with normal shadow settings, or has anybody ideas how to avoid these “wrong shadows” in the spot area?
yes, your right, we should talk in english. it was just some personal stuff about where we live in germany and what we’re doing (i live in düsseldorf, germany and i’m an architect working in an office here). i apologize.
concerning the shadows i think you’re right. i had intensity set to “1”. this seems to be o.k. for a spolight casting light and shadows, but for the “only shadow” one it must be set to a lower value (the shadow get’s laess darker too, which looks more natural. thanx!
