Hi. I’ve just bought Blender for Dummies 2nd Edition which includes an older Blender version 2.56a. All the information and exercises in the book use the 2.56a version. Is there much difference between this version and the latest version 2.70? Will I be able to use the book with version 2.70? Any help appreciated.
A different mesh system was introduced with blender 2.63 so the results of editing your mesh may not duplicate what you see in the book
A new additional renderer was also introduced in blender 2.61
The basic operations of blender will be 99% the same.
I’d suggest using the latest version since that will be more appropriate for the vast number of online tutorials, it has more/better modelling tools, new renderer and thousands of bug fixes since 2.56 was released
