Whispering Pines!

Hi there!

I’m excited to share my first autumn scene, created using Blender, Substance Painter, SpeedTree, Gaea, and a touch of Photoshop for final color correction. I’ve always wanted to model an autumn scene, and I finally did it!
I think ‘Whispering Pines’ shows a calm autumn scene and a peaceful landscape.

  • The landscape was sculpted in Blender, with several textures combined to create the final look.

  • Trees and some plants were created in SpeedTree, while a few plants were also modeled directly in Blender.

  • The cabin and boat were modeled in Blender and textured using Substance Painter.

  • I used Gaea to create the mountains, adding a majestic backdrop to the scene. I’ve always loved snowy mountains!

  • The clouds are volumetric and were also created in Blender, along with the overall atmosphere.

  • The scene was created using Blender and rendered using Cycles. Most of the post-processing and color correction were done in Blender, with final tweaks made in Photoshop.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my work!

I hope you liked it!

Awesome work, beautiful mood, beautiful location.

A little botanic detail question though: as far as I can see, these trees look like conifers?
Most conifers are evergreen trees though, they don’t change foliage color, or drop foliage (needles) in autumn (exception: larch).

It they were deciduous trees, foliage color would fit beeches for instance, however conifers looking like this would be seriously ill/dead.

This is true. Larch trees however do, but they don’t look quite like Larch trees. Perhaps there’s others? I’m not much of a botanist I’m afraid.

Really nice. Are there any tips you can give for how to control the grasses around rocks and where you don’t want them, and blending in changes in the ground like tall grass, to rocky, to very short grass for the car/walking path?

I agree with you guys. The thing is, a while ago I saw a few photos of some kind of autumn forest with orange pines, so I did some research and found out that there are pines called larch, which are different from regular pines. I wanted to create an environment using those yellow pines, but real larch trees are yellowish, while the pines in my reference which inspired me to create the scene were orange.
I don’t know, maybe they were AI generated photos because I couldn’t find any high-resolution versions of them. After all that, I decided to make my trees a little bit different from reality. After all, it’s CG, we can do whatever we want!

Thank you for taking your time and writing it!

thank you so much, i mostly use particle system and weight painting to control such things, it works great for me!

There are many references for Larch. I have a few in the park right behind me. They have very fine and not very long needles. There is some variation in color from beginning of fall season to the end. At the end they can be close this color. The bark on larch (at least the ones I’ve seen) can be quite black.

However like you say, it’s CG, it doesn’t have to be reality and it looks cool
