Who remembers Steve Roberts and his technomadic Winnebiko?

Does any one remember reading about Steve Roberts the “technomad” who toured the roads of the U.S. during the '80s on his computerized recumbent bicycles (Winnebiko I, II, and the Behemouth)?

He made his living from the road by writing articles for magazines as he peddled and transmitting them via packet radio.

Well here’s his website. http://www.microship.com/index.html
He describes his journies as a freelance writer, public speaker and
details his latest technomadic project. It’s like “Water World” meets Bill Gates!

ROFL. Yes, I remember reading about the Bohemouth (sp?), and his next project, the boat… but looking at the path he’s taking, he’s coming less than a mile from my house, and less than 100 yards from our family’s hunting camp.

If you’ll look where it goes down through Alabama, he’ll go from the Tennessee River to the Tombigbee River across the Ten-Tom Waterway. Our hunting camp is right on the Tombigbee… I’ve dumped pig guts in that river, hehe.

Then, when it gets into Mobile Bay (right before the Gulf), he turns East through the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). He’ll pass within a mile of my house at that point.

I guess I’ll keep watch on this page, to see when he sets out… maybe send an invite for a warm meal.

Hmmm… we’d better email him then and tell him to wear something orange that day. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s really cool! You should do it! Invite him over.
Infact It would probably be best to ask him well in advance so he can plan it in.

lol… the Tombigbee ain’t a little creek… actually, I think the whole lenght it runs along the property we’re up on a bluff, with the water level about 30 ft below. …but we don’t shoot out over the river anyhow, hehe. If I were him, I’d be more afraid of tugboats. Well… not the tugboats, but the string-of-pearls of barges they’re pushing.
