why are some of the grid line missing?

2.49b on win7 laptop
i have tried lots of settings - to no avail
i need a grid of lines on top of the base thingy.

PS is my computer is or is this bland lighting? ( the car pic)
i need it more contrasty - i use PSE to ad contrast, but i am sure it can be done in blender lighting.

How are you creating the grid? If you have two meshes occupying the same location it can cause problems. Either raise one mesh slightly or adjust the Z Offset setting in its materials settings.

Steve S is raising the right issue. The problem is due to a collision, between ‘Plane.002’ and ‘Cube’. I know it’s not an exact overlap, but there seems to be some bugginess in the wire drawing that makes near misses also bad. To fix it, turn up the Z offset for the wire material; you’ll need to enable Z transparency for that to have any effect.

would you believe that even tho the grid is BELOW the car, the line show OVER the car and wheels - unless you get the z offset just right!

Yes, that’s the way Z offset works: it makes the renderer think the surface is nearer the camera than it actually is.
