Why can’t I subdivide the whole object?

I want to model and sculpt this object, but I can only subdivide some faces. I figured it has something to do with the slanted lines. I have previously made a hole in the object using the Boolean Modifier.
I am very new to blender and haven’t been able to find anything about this. Does anyone know what to do?

It’s not subdividing properly because of the N-Gons (A face with more than four sides). They’re a pretty common side effect of using the boolean modifier.

This is a pretty simple shape, so it’s probably going to be easier to just remodel it using extrusions and edge bridging so it has no N-Gons from the start, rather than trying to fix it as is.

You can use the Remesh modifier for this object.
It does not apply equally to all situations.
