Because I first started using Blender with version 2.33 and the menu entry even back then was ‘Monkey’.
Anyway, I wouldn’t panic due to the fact everyone here still refers to it as ‘Suzanne’
Suzanne called Ton and asked him why they were using her name. Then Ton ordered Brecht to change the name. Brecht was before called Paul I think.
