I hear everywhere that when you bake a normal the object to bake to must be in the SAME place as the high poly object? In all the bakes ive done the low poly object MUST be slightly above the High poly object. When both objects occupy the same space the normal bake comes out wrong. Why does every say put it in the same space as the high poly object?
It’s easier to put it in the same spot, especially when using MultiRes or retopo-ing a dynamic brush project.
You should use the “Ray Distance” feature (when using Selected to Active) to make things come out right. Quick example:
With a Ray Distance of 0.000, you get the blank areas:
But if I increase my Ray Distance to 0.100 (in this case), the gaps are gone:
Hope this helps.
