Why does extruding a face move the face, and not extrude it?

I’m perplexed on this quandary I’ve encountered. When I try and extrude a face on a facade, it moves physically inward/outward (the bottom one). The second extrude I did, it extruded properly, generating new geometry. I’m not sure why this occurs?

Extrude works both inwards and outwards depending on the direction you move your mouse in.

Careful, it sounds like you extruded twice, once inwards and then outwards. That will give you unwanted “hidden” geometry.

Ps
This is similar to the Vert/edge slide thing, in Blender the direction you move your mouse in often changes the result.

I think it’s a problem that the direction of the Face normal, which is common during modeling, is reversed?

Enable the functionality of the image Check it out.
If the normal is flipped, correct it using Shift+N after full selection (editing mode).

I think everything worked as expected:

Thank you to everyone who answered this question. This was precisely it. There was hidden geometry from extruding pants reversing it and causing hidden geometry. Which I didn’t know could happen

Another thing to be aware of is that if you extrude, (hit e) and do not move your mouse, if you click the mouse It has done an extrusion but you can not see it because you will now have 2 faces in the same place. The same thing happens if you extrude and hit Esc.

This can be useful in some circumstances but is worth mentioning because it is easy to do by mistake and creates unwanted overlapping faces.
