Why does my mesh deform when scrubbing?

I have a model thats been rigged and up with automatic weights and then cleaned things up in weight paint mode. The model seems to pose correctly on keyframes but sometimes when i scrub between keyframes it deforms like the mesh isn’t sticking to the bones. Scrubbing in reverse causes the bones to deform the opposite way like they are easing in real time while i scrub through frames. I’ve looked through all the options i know to look and tried adjusting weights but i’m unsure what the problem is. Attached are screenshots of the same frame but when scrubbing forward in one image and in reverse in the other. Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? Thank you.
