Why does my PC crash at the end of a low intensity render?

I am trying to render an animation, I have rendered scenes much more complex than this before on my PC yet I have recently been running into problems when rendering almost anything. My PC tends to crash or blue screen either during or at the end of a render, even when I attempt to render one frame and not even the whole animation. I have tried rendering without any compositing, I have tried on blender 2.8 and 2.7. The scene is so basic that there isn’t much I can do in terms of render layers to divide the workload. The sample count isn’t particularly high and I have tried rendering at half resolution. All of these have resulted in crashes. On the occasion when my PC blue screens, I get a clock watchdog timeout error.

Here is the blend file if anyone is willing to take a look: http://pasteall.org/blend/index.php?id=51683

I’m running 4Gb of RAM with an AMD Athlon 2 X4 651 processor. My graphics card is an Nvidia 1050 Ti.
