Well guys, I’m afraid I’m back.
First of all I wanna thanks you all for the great response I received on the thread “textures gone wild” I really appreciated ;).
So i managed to get the texture back on the GE. great. The problem now is that it doesn’t too good. The problem is the stars. Since the whole thing is a simulation of the solar system, I would like to have starfilled background. So I made a giantsphere and inverted the normals. then put a nice star texture on it. it looks somewhat acceptable when I use preview(shift P) and when I render an image(F12). But for some reason, the GE makes something entirely different with th texture.
Enough chatter, let me show you some pictures:
preview, render and GE.
Looking from the Moon, it seems that you have not used the UV texture editor
to “map” your textures.
Or done a bad work with it?! Maybe wrong UV calculation, maybe?!
Firstly, do you have a lamp in your setup, 'cause that is whats causing the weird look, so delete that, and it will look much better, or you can put the stuff you don’t want to be affected by light on a different layer.
Secondly. LOWER YOUR POLY COUNT!!! Its WAY too high atm!
-go to the shading panel (F5)
-go to the mapping panel in the textures thingy (yay for technical terms)
-where orco is selected, choose UV instead
that should work
also, THE POLY COUNT IS FINE (I can use caps too^^) as long as it’s a solar system alone. poly counts that high are only a problem when you have many objects physics and logic (or if you have just an obscene number of polygons, but that would probably need hundreds of planets to be a problem)
the lamp isn’t a problem (delete it, and the planets won’t be shaded, believe it or not) but you’re gonna want to turn shadeless on for the starfield (make sure it has it’s own texture, so the planets can keep their shading)
hi thanks to all the hints and advices…
I changed it to UV from orco and I made the background shadeless. the render images became better but the GE refuses to texture the background.
What do I do wrong? Why does the render and the GE show different things?
GE to the left and render to the right
