Why dont legs walking

Hello,

I like this DVD character Animation very much, but there is few nasty things, I dont understand.

I have try 25-30 times to "Walk in the park " with my Biped man. I think I have learn most of the steps by now. But why??? the legs not comming with the rest of the body.

Here is my explanation.

I move the slider from FK to IK.(DVD say so ) I move the feets/Legs apart in to a walkposition. I select and grab the hip up/down to get the feet in exact floor level. I press Record button. I change arms, head, fingers, schoulders to a good position. I press A key twice + I key and rot/loc/scale.

I move to frames 20. I press the arrows (Copies the current pose to the buffer ) and the other one ( Pastes te mirrored pose from the buffer ) and the body change position (Little bit only)

I drag and move the green frameline, the body move perfect, but not the feet. Yes I have try to disconect the IK. dont work.
2)
In the DVD I can see how he move the knee bones. My Biped man have no knee bones. In front view / top view I can not move the legs/knees . Why ???

This last one is crazy

I save the blender project with the legs in walkposition. I open up the file and there was Biped man, but not in the walkposition any more. This is frustrating.

Please, can anyone help me out

Thank in advance

I change to a better blender file

Hi there!!

I have bought this DVD too and I’m learning how to animate my characters.
I have learned from The Mancandy FAQ how to animate Mancandy, but it’s the same for other characters.
Is the biped character the one that comes within the DVD ? If so, there are 2 FK/IK controls. One of them is for arms and the other one is for legs. Try to use all with IK.
I’ll try to simulate the Walk in the park and give my impressions here.

Hello Still, Thanks for helping. I vill try to use IK upp and down bodyes, but this vill not help my problem.
In the DVD he use IK only for the lower part of the body as me.

:confused:

Hi OnyX;

I have tried it here and it works for me, for my own animation.
Did you use a linked character ?

[]'s,

Still

Sorry OnyX, I saw that you have used a linked character.
When I opened the file, I saw 2 frames with keys: frame 1 and frame 20, but I cannot seee the character (obviosly!), because it’s a linked character.
I can’t see the error that you have unless you attach the file with the character without be linked.
One important thing that I read in your first message. You said that you put your character in the walk position and after that you have pressed the record button, right ? It’s wrong! You nedd to press the record button first and after that, you begin to move the bones to walk position.

Hello Still, and thanks for your help. I need that.

Today I have solved mosty of the (Walk in the park ) problems.< http://www.vimeo.com/3213414 >

I have one other very nasty problem. I have try maybe 20-25 times to add Biped ( rig ) in to my own made character. No way, dont work for me.

This is what I am doing. In my iMac document file I select and make a copie of the Biped-Rig. In my Blender - Scene with my character - in File - Append or Linc - P - select biped-rig (copie ). press Load Library - Messages tell me "Errror Nothing Indicared " ???

I try to go to Add - Group and add the biped-rig that way. OK biped and my character laying side by side. I press Ctrl + Alt P to got in to edit mode. Dont work. No rig in the popup window.??

Can you advice me where the problems is

Thank you

Hi OnyX;

Let me see if I got it… You want to use the rig of Bipped Rig Character, don’t you ? If so, the way is little different.
First of all, you need to make a copy of bipped-rig.blend and rename it, mycharacter.blend, for example, and after that, you need to append your own character in this file.
After you have inserted your own character, you need to fix the size and fix the bones to match your character.
When you finish that, select your mesh and the armature of the bipped character and press ctrl+P. Select armature and create from bone heat. After that, select the armature and go to pose mode. Then, select the mesh again and go to weight paint mode and press Paint, Apply Bone Heat Weights to Vertex Groups.
After that, you can improve the weight paint and it’s done. :slight_smile:
I put your file with the armature attached here. You need to fix the weigth paint for the hands and feets. I’m in a hurry right now. :slight_smile:

Hmmmmm… One tip for your walk: the hands and arms go to the oposite side of legs. :slight_smile:

Hello Still. I appreciate your help very much…
Next time the arms vill move allong with the body…

The DVD show how he start with a empty Jim-character and add mancandy-rig. I start with my own empty character and try to add biped rig. Next time, I vill try the opposite way as you suggested.

Thank you.

Hi OnyX;

I see… The problem is that William have presented the Jim character without rig to us to have an idea what he was doing.
As Shawn Kellly always says: “Have fun with animation!”

Hello Still, Yes, this Blender animations excite me a lot. I try to weight paint your rig you give me. I need to study DVD more abouth weigt paint.

Normaly, you select rig - body and press Ctrl + P and a popup window let you choose to ,boons , envelops, or to nearest boon, etc. This time I got only one choose, " Make Parent ". Something wrong.

I made my own boons (Rig ) to my character, I dont run in to any weight paint problem at all.

Thank you.
