why don't this multitexture work? what's wrong whit it?

i’m trying to lern how to use diferent textures on the same object, but it simply won’t work when i start the game, plz tell me what i’m doing wrong:)
here is my test .blend multitexture.blend (576 KB)

-Switch to Edit Mode
-open the material Tab.
-Select the face which should get the wood texture.
-Select the wood texture material and hit assign
