Why i get shadows like polygon in viewport render(cycle)?

upper image is rendered mode. under image is material preview.

Why i get a shadow like a polygon?
I use smooth shading for sphere.

Terminator problem or terminator artifacts. I think consensus is to increase geometry.

They are working on it…https://developer.blender.org/T68920

I don’t really know any more but you could search around for those two terms.

Also, try to increase your light size, or add a second one, it will smooth the shape

Possibly, add a subdivision surface modifier and increase the cuts and try shading flat then smooth again.

You can fix this by 3 methods , first , increasing the render px size will smooth the render , it’s 32 by default , in final render pic it’s 128 , increase these 2 values and you are done ! , the other method is to set your shadow quality to 1 or more , the last method which i don’t know how to perform it honestly is to add a “denoiser”

This would work with the game engine , but cycles is a bit different , ( not our place buddy :face_with_monocle:)

Hmm, okay if that won’t work. When you add a object you get this:

Just increase the number of cuts. Then shade smooth again.
This should decrease the intensity of the polygonal shadow.

thanks.i try second method fot this.

Is it possible to set soft shadow with cycle in 2.83a? The point light has a larger size.
It is not possible with sun light.
