Why is it impossible to have multiple node editors of the same kind open?

for some reason it is impossible to keep a node based window open, when switching material, clicking another object etc. It now became blatantly obvious for me as my node based projects are getting bigger I might want to check or copy paste from other part of node trees, but as of currently have not seemingly found a way to keep a node group open while another is open too. (both editor windows perform the same behaviour in each subsequent window)

maybe its just me, don’t seem to find any documentation on it

Use the pin icon, it’s near the middle of the node editor header and to the right of the name of the currently open network.
