wieght paint have no variable influences

I have a high poly model that is riged with envelopes. I paint the mesh and the bones work but there is no variation of influence with color. In other words light blue effects the mesh the same as dark red.

If you weight paint a vertex at either 0.1 or 1 to one bone then it gets affected the same. The variation of influence comes into play when you weight paint the vertex to two or more deforming bones…

I think this is all covered in the Blender Manual give it a read.
