Will mirror weight painting work with this?

I’m just now getting into weight painting. (Although I’m an excellent 3DS Max rigger using just the weight table.) My only problem is that I need to know what will work with mirror painting. I have this skirt with bones perfectly aligned and they’re the same on the other side, also the middle line of bones is the same as the rear.

Will this bone layout work with mirror painting? As you can see I’ve tried.
I also tried putting the “.L” and “.R” as a suffix for a couple bones to test and see if it worked, which didn’t. I did it for the bones that’s on the far left and right sides but, nothing. It’s just not mirror painting…

I believe that is because your L & R ending characters are incorrectly labeled.
Currently you numbers such as 1 at the end of your bone(s), when instead L & R should be at the ending characters.

Like I said, it didn’t work. I tried it again with name flipping and still nothing. I changed my bone names back to their original names after the failed attempts and before I read your reply. (Appreciate the info though)
