Is this a sign of change on the VSE front? While we are stuck with poor colour space handling of imported video at least we could be looking at a cool new modular approach to strip effects.
I hope this prospective dev gets some support as the ideas he proposes seem sound and exciting!
In parallel with using
Blender I have developed my own little suite of video editing tools
(timelapse, anti-shake, motion interpolation, etc.), and lately I have
started to think about putting these tools into Blender. I found them
useful, so I’m assuming others will, too.
I always had the impression that if mango (may) get started the VSE would be something that natural would be improved. If I’m not mistaken Mango could be a mix between real life footage and CGI ?
^That’s the idea I get too.
And of course Ton mentioned shading and lighting improvements too (My guess is BXDF for shading, not sure about lighting). I’m sure that this guy is welcome to help out anyway.
There is one exciting development in progress for the VSE with regard to the Xat’s Filter Stack patch from sometime ago. We’ll have to wait a little longer for that to be announced in hopefully the near future depending on progress being made.
I think that will form the basis of everything that follows for adding effects, maybe even a modular way to add new coded effects replacing sequencer plugins as well.
MLT http://www.mltframework.org/twiki/bin/view/MLT/ which forms the basis of Kdenlive and Openshot looks like it could be a real benefit to Blender’s VSE and Comp Nodes for video handling.
For Linux and Mac currently but with the Openshot developer looking for help porting MLT to Windows then it’d become a more cross platform toolkit.
Problem is: the idea behind the VSE is, that it should try to do most /
all things in realtime.
That doesn’t alter the fact, that we need optical flow, so my idea was:
add a optical flow builder, similar to the proxy builder in 2.49 and link
the generated optical flow files to the strips.
Latest VSE posts from Leo and Peter suggest that, right now, it is a tough nut to crack. And again there seems to be a divergence of opinion to the direction of development (a running theme in the Blender world). To modularise and batch or not? Hmmm, seems a shame if Peter is the only dev left pushing the VSE forward, it seems a lot of work for an individual.
But I guess everyone working on Blender is doing waaaaay more hours than they really should.
