Windows 7 - MinGW builds sporadically fail to start

Since about May, when I began to play with the (faster-CPU-cycles-rendering) MinGW blender builds, every so often they fail to start.

Any MinGW-based build will open only as far as the command prompt, which will then fade out as though it is an unresponsive window, and I get the message “Blender has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

A bit of digging in the event viewer gives the error code “0xc0000005” (more completely:
“Faulting application name: blender.exe, version: 2.6.3.0, time stamp: 0x504ad982
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005”)

This persists for some time, perhaps a day or two, no matter how many times I try to start the program or reboot my computer. For that time, I must use a non-MinGW build Then, at some point, MinGW-Blender starts when I tell it to!

This cycle has gone on for months, and I have no idea as to its cause or its solution.
